From the AGM 2009
Nottingham & County Childminding Association held their AGM & Conference at County Hall, West Bridgford on Saturday October 10th. A fun packed day and lots of freebies ensured everyone went home exhausted but enthusiatic. Everyone was warmly welcomed by the Chair, Christine Emery. The keynote speaker was Nicholas Allan, author & illustrator of the children's book 'The Queen's Knickers'. He explained how to get children involved in crearive writing and during his talk, amazed the audience with his off the cuff magic tricks including making Santa's underpants disappear! Nicholas introduced his new book 'Father Christmas needs a wee' which is out in time to fill Christmas stockings. We are certain there will be heavy demand for it; everyone in attendance laughed out loud as he read the story and all wanted to buy a copy.
While the committee met to appoint officers, Nicholas signed copies of many of his books, including The Queen's Knickers and Cinderella's Bum ( there is a theme here if you can spot it?) Guests browsed the exciting and varied array of stalls and were wowed by Jofll Bear, the Sign language birthday and Christmas Cards from Signing with Olli, the huge toy selections brought by Creative Thinking and TTS and the cute embroidered items displayed by Fabric Bug. Following lunch was a presentation by Sarah Edwards on how to use the story of the Queen's Knickers to fulfill many areas of learning and development in EYFS. The talk culminated with all delegates having an opportunity to design a pair of cardboard knickers.
A lot of hilarity followed and some fantastic designs were produced!
All delegates recieved a mini version of the book and a pack of craft items to begin their own Queen's Knickers event with the children they care for. Every delegate had their name entered in a draw for the larger book, the lucky winner was Sharon Benner, seen pictured with Nicholas Allan himself.
