First Aid update

We have had several enquiries from childminders with up and coming Ofsted Inspections asking for advice about First Aid Box contents. If you have a list given to you during First aid training then use that; if not we offer this general guidance below Childminders First Aid Box.

Please remember that the cost of the box and all the items are tax deductible expenses

The National Standards require that you have a first aid box and the contents are checked and replaced regularly. Make sure that your Childminding First Aid kit is kept safely together in a waterproof container and that it is clearly marked. Always keep it in the same place so that it is easy to find when needed.

If you use your first aid box for outings as well as in the home stick a contact list for all children inside the box lid. If you have a child who is allergic to plasters then you should clearly mark the plaster box that they are not to be used on the child. ( It is always a good idea to check the skin around a newly applied plaster to make certain an allergic reaction is not taking place. If you notice any change you should remove the plaster and seek medical help immediately)The Red Cross does recommend that all open wounds are covered to prevent infection.

Please remember that it is a requirement that all registered Childminders complete a 12 hour paediatric first aid course that includes infant and child resuscitation every three years.

If you do not have a current certificate you make be graded unsatisfory or have your registration suspended.
